Getting your content into Amazon

6 min read

ListingSmith hands you finished files, and you place them in Seller Central yourself. A direct Amazon integration is on the roadmap. For now the paste-in pass has an upside: it forces one last read of everything before it goes live under your brand.

What’s in the export bundle

  • Listing document. Your title, bullets, description, and backend search terms, formatted for easy copying, with your keyword tiers included for reference.
  • A+ Content document. Every module in order with its text, image filenames, and alt text.
  • Image ZIP. Every A+ image named by module and slot, plus a README that maps files to modules.

Find it all under View exports on the project, or from the row menu on your dashboard.

Placing the listing copy

  1. 1
    Open the listing editor

In Seller Central, go to Manage All Inventory, find the product, and choose Edit. For a brand-new product, these same fields appear when you create the listing.

  2. 2
    Paste title, bullets, and description

Title goes in the product name field, the five bullets into the bullet point fields, the description into the product description field. Paste as plain text and let Amazon’s editor do the formatting.

  3. 3
    Add the backend search terms

Under the keywords section of the edit page, paste the backend line into the search terms field. It’s already packed under the 250-byte limit, so paste it whole and don’t add to it.

Note: Amazon sometimes takes a few hours to reflect listing edits, and certain categories restrict which fields you can change on an existing ASIN. Neither is anything ListingSmith did.

Uploading modular A+ Content

  1. 1
    Open A+ Content Manager

It lives under the Advertising menu in Seller Central. Click Start creating A+ content and pick the type that matches what you built: the standard enhanced product description, or Premium A+.

  2. 2
Rebuild the page module by module

Add the same module types in the same order as your export document. Upload each image from the ZIP, matching by filename, and paste the text into the matching fields. The document is laid out top to bottom so this is a straight transcription job.

  3. 3
    Paste the alt text

Each image in the document has alt text (Amazon calls it image keywords). It’s indexed, so don’t skip it. It’s written already, just paste it.

  4. 4
    Apply your ASIN and submit

Attach the content to your ASIN and submit for approval. Amazon reviews A+ submissions, which usually clears in a day or two but can take up to about a week. Rejections come with a reason and you can fix and resubmit.

Uploading a seamless page

A seamless export is a set of full-width slices in stacking order. In A+ Content Manager, add one full-width image module per slice, top to bottom, and upload the slices in filename order. The edges are designed to join, so on the live page they read as one continuous design. If you generated the mobile version, its slices go in the mobile image slots of the same modules.

Tip: After Amazon approves, look at the live page on your phone, not just desktop. Most shoppers see the mobile rendering first, and it’s where cropping surprises show up.
